In this intermediate-level course, you'll dive deep into the rich history of sampling and remixing, before exploring modern techniques that will help you create unique tracks. Whether you're interested in how to remix songs, flip samples, or transform acapellas, Making Waves will teach you the skills needed to produce polished remixes and inspired edits.
In this course, you’ll learn how to source and warp audio samples, chop and manipulate material, and produce remixes that stand out. By the end of the program, you’ll have a thorough understanding of how to manipulate samples in Ableton Live and will have completed your own remixes.
Course Outcomes

• Sampling Techniques: Learn how to source, warp, and manipulate audio in Ableton Live, and get creative with samples from classic tracks or unique found sounds.
• History of Sampling & Remixing: Understand the cultural and musical evolution of sampling, from its roots in hip-hop to its use in today’s electronic and popular music.
• Music Theory for Remixing: Deepen your knowledge of music theory, focusing on reharmonizing existing material and leveling up your chord progressions, basslines, and melodies.
• Remix your Favorite Songs: Create unique edits, bootlegs, and remixes of your favorite tracks using samples, stems, and acapellas.

History of Sampling: Explore the evolution of sampling from its roots in hip-hop and electronic music to its modern-day applications in popular music and underground dance music.
Sampling and Sourcing: Learn to dig for samples anywhere and everywhere, from vinyl records and classic tracks to working with our partner Splice, and sourcing found sounds.
Warping and Audio Manipulation: Gain a deep understanding of Ableton’s Warp modes and learn how to manipulate audio, whether it’s changing tempo, altering pitch, or creatively chopping up samples.
Edits, Bootlegs, and Remixes: Learn how to reimagine existing songs, remix stems, and work with acapellas to create new and unique versions of your favorite tracks. Whether it’s a house re-edit or a completely new take, you’ll learn how to create professional-quality remixes.
Music Theory for Sampling: Improve your music theory skills, learning how to re-harmonize, create new chord progressions, and craft basslines that transform your remixes into fully-fledged productions.
